UQ Science Ambassador Program

Raise the profile of science within your school and recognise high-achieving and motivated Year 11 science and mathematics students by nominating them as UQ Science Ambassadors.

For more than 2 decades, our award-winning program has welcomed thousands of outstanding students from schools across Queensland including those from rural, regional and remote areas.

Ambassadors champion science at their school by developing and delivering events, including National Science Week activities, and encouraging other senior science students to share their science journeys with students in all years.

Each year, ambassadors summarise their activities and achievements in a written or video report. An academic panel judges entries to award prizes for the:

Best Ambassador Schools
Best New Ambassador Schools
Best Ambassadors
Best Ambassador Teachers
Best Ambassador Scientific Technician (new category).

Nominations for the 2026 program will open in Term 4, 2025.

Science Ambassador Leadership Day

All current Science Ambassadors are invited to participate in this year’s Science Ambassador Leadership Day.

Saturday 2 August
9am–4pm
UQ St Lucia campus

The event is in-person only. A pizza lunch is included.

Key activities

CV development workshop: apply reflective practice and articulate your achievement and experience during your leadership as a UQ Science Ambassador (useful for CV development, scholarship applications, etc.)
succession and strategic planning workshop: develop strategies to transfer your knowledge and experience to the next generation of UQ Science Ambassadors, to develop sustainable succession in your school community
science communication challenge: put your creative hats on to deliver an impressive pitch to communicate science, with prizes awarded to the best teams
meet other Ambassadors from around the state.

This training session is delivered by Dr Gurion Ang.

The UQ Open Day St Lucia is on Sunday 3 August 2025. If you are travelling from a regional area, you may wish to stay overnight to attend Open Day.
