3. Obtain supervisor endorsement
Before submitting your application via Student Hub, you are encouraged to contact your preferred supervisor to seek their endorsement for undertaking their project.
Discussing the project and your suitability with the supervisor can help you determine whether the project aligns with your interests, skills and background. It also allows the supervisor to learn more about your interest in the project and your potential contribution to the research team. Applicants who engage with supervisors before applying often submit stronger applications, as supervisors can better assess their suitability for the project.
While contacting a supervisor and obtaining endorsement is strongly encouraged, applications submitted without supervisor endorsement will still be considered through the standard selection process. Please note that supervisor endorsement does not guarantee a place in the program or allocation to a specific project.
When contacting the supervisor we suggest your email includes:
- an introduction to yourself and why you are interested in the project
- your motivation for participating in the program
- what you hope to gain from the research experience
- the skills, knowledge, experience or perspectives you could contribute to the project team.
If you receive supervisor endorsement, upload the email from the supervisor as part of your Student Hub application. Endorsement confirms that the supervisor considers you a suitable candidate and supports your application progressing through the selection process.
You may reuse the message you provided to the supervisor as your personal statement in your Student Hub application.
