About the opportunity

These unique opportunities, supported by the New Colombo Plan (NCP) will supercharge your employability, offering an incredible mix of dynamic academic lectures, hands-on workshops, site visits and networking with industry professionals. You’ll gain cutting-edge knowledge in agriculture, biotechnology and environmental sustainability, while growing your cross-cultural skills through language courses, recreational and cultural activities.

NCP is a signature initiative of the Australian Government, which aims to promote knowledge of the Indo-Pacific in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduates to study and undertake internships in the region. The study experiences taking place in 2026 build on UQ’s links with our Chinese partner universities. UQ academic leads for this year’s program include Dr Gurion Ang and Associate Professor Renjie Zhou.

Funding is available to support 20 students enrolled in eligible programs with the Faculty of Science to participate in these programs based in China. Selected students will each be offered a mobility grant of AUD $4,000 to support the cost of participating in this study experience. See more information in the Costs section below.

Students should refer to the eligibility criteria section to check their eligibility before applying. We may consider additional students who are not eligible for NCP funding (including international students) on a case-by-case basis.

2026 is the third time that the Faculty of Science will be running this mobility program.
