Science has taken Professor Helen Bostock to the freezing far ends of the Earth.
In the summer of 2023, the oceanographer co-led a research voyage on Australia’s Research Vessel (RV) Investigator to the Cape Darnley region in East Antarctica, collecting data on the ocean and deep-sea sediment cores to study past and present climate change.
Antarctica may be a long way from Queensland, but at our next BrisScience Professor Bostock will cover how past, recent and future changes in Antarctica are impacting - and will impact - Queensland and the global climate.

Meet the presenter
Professor Helen Bostock is a University of Queensland-based ocean explorer whose research focuses ice-ocean-climate interactions. She has participated in a number of research voyages to study the physics, chemistry, biology and geology of the Southern Ocean and oceans around Antarctica. These regions play a critical role in controlling global climate in the past, present and future.
