Join us at our next BrisScience to hear about Dr Evelyne Deplazes' unusual career journey and her amazing work at The University of Queensland.

Her story is one of opportunities, determination, and resilience. Over more than two decades, Dr Deplazes dropped out of high school, became an apprentice car electrician, then completed her PhD in computational biophysics, dealing with mental health challenges along the way.

Dr Deplazes will also share insights into how supercomputers can help us study the molecular world and help us develop much-needed antibiotic or antifungal drugs to treat life-threatening infections.

We are very excited to welcome you to The Edge. We'll be serving up delicious light refreshments and drinks after the presentation.

Meet the presenter

Dr Evelyne DeplazesDr Evelyne Deplazes is a biophysical and computational chemist, and her research and teaching are driven by her innate curiosity and her fascination with the molecular world. Her research combines computer simulations and wet-lab experiments to understand how drug-like compounds interact with biological membranes such the ones found in human, bacterial or fungal cells. She aims to use the knowledge and tools from her research to help develop new pharmaceuticals or understand fundamental processes such as how drugs enter cells.
