The University of Queensland Gatton Past Students Association (UQGPSA) has made a significant donation to expand their existing scholarship to support even more students.
The $50,000 pledge will be matched dollar-for-dollar by The University of Queensland’s Create Change Scholarship Match; an initiative to add $30 million worth of needs-based scholarships to UQ's endowment.
This scholarship supports undergraduate students who attend the Gatton campus for the minimum duration of their study program.
Samantha Drummond was one of the worthy students awarded the scholarship in 2020.
“The scholarship has given me the chance to continue to live on campus and concentrate on my studies,” she said.
“I cannot begin to describe how grateful I am to be chosen for this award; it will help me immensely over the next five years.”
The scholarship was established in 2006 to support students who, because of financial, personal, or home circumstances, might otherwise be unable to enter full-time study at UQ Gatton.
“This scholarship recognises the importance to ensure students who are in financial distress can further their agricultural education at the Gatton Campus,” said UQGPSA President, Mark Pace.
“We saw the need to enhance engagement with our scholarship program and The University of Queensland's ‘Create Change’ initiative has provided the ideal opportunity for the Association to collaborate closer with UQ, and the Faculty of Science, to provide meaningful opportunities for prospective students.”
The $50,000 pledge means students in need will have increased access to a world-class program for the duration of their undergraduate studies.
