University of Queensland Faculty of Science students and recent graduates have received $1000 bursaries from Alumni Friends of UQ to mark the organisation’s golden jubilee this year.
The recipients were selected by their Schools for service to their School, or for innovation.
The Golden Jubilee Bursaries project is a major fund-raising activity with 50 student bursaries being presented to students in 2017-18.
Science faculty winners are:
School of Biological Sciences (Libbie Wilson Bursary) - Tim Staples, who has voluntarily helped both student and academic staff with R-based statistical analyses and graphical representation of results.
School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences (Dr Frances Thomas Bursary) - Imogen Bermingham, founder and 2016 president of the SCMB Research Students Social Club and an active member (2015/2016) of the SCMB Research Students Advisory Group.
School of Earth and Environmental Sciences – Alexandra Brown, for outstanding commitment to service of the student body of UQ and the broader community.
School of Mathematics and Physics (Dalma Jacobs Bursary) - Stephanie Green, for service, for her involvement in the Maths Student Society and representing the views of undergraduate students through the school’s Teaching and Learning Committee; and Marielle Ong, for innovation in research as an Honours student and MPhil student.
Gatton Campus Award (Feona Walker Award) - Lina Marcela Walker, the president of the UQ Wildlife Association and was involved in creating fundraising events and other activities for students on campus.
School of Veterinary Science (Jacobs Family Bursary) - Reem Felemban and Shuting Jin who initiated the School of Veterinary Science Peer Support Network with Student Services and School staff. The group aims to support student health and wellbeing within the school.
School of Agriculture and Food Sciences - Alicia Kelly, for her work in community service as a Student Ambassador, a student representative at the SAFS Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and member of the Student Relations team.
