Getting started at UQ Science

Starting university is exciting. There’s a lot to take in before you begin your classes, so we’re here to guide you.

Before Orientation Week (O-Week runs 17 to 21 February), there are some tasks to complete and some sessions you may want to join.

All commencing students will receive a series of emails leading up to O-Week including registration links to important sessions, so please check your student email regularly. You'll need to activate your student account to gain access to your UQ student email address.

1. Activate your student account

Visit Starting at UQ to activate your student account, including your UQ student email address and login.

You’ll find a step-by-step guide on how to enrol, select your preferred classes, understand fees and key dates, prepare for the semester, and more. Make sure you click through all the steps.

3. Join our Getting Started sessions

Unsure where to start? Our Getting Started sessions teach you all the basics to get you started at university.

We recommend attending as many sessions as possible as they all cover different, and important, UQ systems and services that you will use throughout your university journey.

All online sessions are via Zoom, which is free to download and easy to access from PCs, laptops, tablets and smart phones. Install Zoom

Please login to Zoom using your UQ login at uqz.zoom.us. Recordings of all online sessions will be available on this page after the event.*

4. Attend a UQ info session

Take a look at the range of other information sessions and modules on my.UQ.

The sessions will help you navigate the transition to university, and give you an indication of what it will be like at UQ.

*Please note: UQ uses technology to create transcripts and/or closed captions for lectures and presentations, and that process is inherently fallible. Given the volume of materials created for lectures, UQ teaching staff are not expected to review, correct or edit transcripts and/or closed captions. Accordingly, such materials may contain errors and/or omissions and students should exercise caution and not rely solely upon such materials. Views expressed by individual presenters and participants in lectures are not necessarily the views of the University, and should not be taken as being endorsed by the University.
