Koala sperm and egg bank conservation research

Reproductive biologist Dr Andres Gambini and his team established Queensland's first coordinated koala sperm and egg bank at UQ's Gatton campus.

The project acts as a vital genetic safety net to safeguard species diversity and guard against inbreeding or extinction.

It builds on UQ’s expertise in marsupial reproduction, including the birth of the first koala through artificial insemination and the production of kangaroo IVF embryos.
